Vince Grella criticises Rory Fallon comments ahead of friendly
Australia midfielder Vince Grella has criticised New Zealand striker Rory Fallon over his comments ahead of Monday’s friendly.
The two World Cup-bound sides will continue their preparations with a match at Melbourne Cricket Ground, and Fallon has angered Grella by insisting the game will be anything but a friendly.
The Blackburn Rovers man said: "I am disappointed. It's a man's game and it should be played in a man's way.
"But I would never wish it upon any of the New Zealand players to get injured. That would be something shocking.
"For him even to be thinking about things like that is very unprofessional. Maybe he is trying to ruffle the wrong feathers."
Veteran Socceroos defender Craig Moore was also disappointed by Fallon's comments.
"Let's hope there are no injuries because it's a game that is part of both teams' build-up to the World Cup," the former Glasgow Rangers player added.
"I certainly don't want to miss my last World Cup because of an injury I pick up in that game.
"Every game you play you want to win, but as long as it's played in a good spirit and fair play.
"I hope it's a wonderful game. It's our last chance to play in front of our families and friends.
"It's against our greatest rivals but I'm sure every player wants to come through without picking up an injury."
Australia begin their World Cup campaign against Germany on June 13 and can be backed at 9/4 with bet365 to reach the knockout stages.New Zealand are 9/1 with the same bookmaker.
