Argentina coach Diego Maradona was pleased with his side’s performance in the 5-0 hammering of Canada.
Despite star man Lionel Messi sitting out the match, the hosts looked impressive as Maxi Rodriguez (2), Angel Di Maria, Carlos Tevez and Sergio Aguero all found the net.
Maradona broke away from his usual 4-4-2 formation to play three up front, and the Argentina legend was delighted with what he saw.
“This performance showed that Argentina can play with three strikers at the World Cup,” he said.
Liverpool’s Rodriguez opened the scoring with a free-kick (16) before adding a well-taken second after being played in by Manchester City star Tevez (32).
Di Maria’s left-foot stunner from distance made it 3-0 (37) before Gonzalo Higuain set up Tevez to net (62).
Higuain himself wasted several one-on-one chances with the Canadian goalkeeper before Aguero completed the rout 18 minutes from time.
Argentina can be backed at 8/1 with Ladbrokes to win a third World Cup this summer.
