Diego Maradona is confident Argentina will get past Germany on Saturday to book a place in the World Cup semi-finals.
Despite having scraped into the tournament following a poor qualifying campaign, Argentina have been in fine form to win all four of their games so far.
Maradona’s side’s latest success was a comfortable 3-1 win over Mexico to set up the clash with the Germans, who progressed to the quarter-finals with a 4-1 rout of England.
But despite Germany’s humbling of the Three Lions, the Argentina legend is confident he has the players at his disposal to send Joachim Loew’s side home.
“We will take stock of our situation, then we will try and put together the best team to showcase our talents against Germany,” he said.
“It will be the team to give us the guarantee to overcome Germany. We know Germany are a different team to the side we faced in Mexico. They are stronger, but we will field the right players to beat them.”
And Maradona admits his players have made him wishing he could turn back the clock to his playing days.
“I feel like pulling on the jersey and playing myself,” he continued.
“It is beautiful to be involved with this group of players, I feel proud to share these moments with them.
“They said I had no idea about how to coach, but suddenly I am winning matches and I am still the same guy.”
Argentina are 4/6 with Paddy Power and William Hill ‘to qualify’ at the expense of Germany, who are 13/10 (bet365). Maradona’s side are a best-price 15 with bodog to win the World Cup for the first time since 1986.
