Portugal v Brazil team news - Brazil expect Elano to be fit for Portugal showdown

World Cup Staff - 21 Jun 2010

Brazil midfielder Elano is expected to face Portugal on Friday despite being stretchered off on Sunday night.

The 29-year-old, who has scored in two successive group games, suffered a right-leg injury during a challenge with Ismael Tiote during the 3-1 victory over the Ivory Coast.

But team-mate Luis Fabiano, who netted twice in the victory, believes the former Manchester City player, now with Galatasaray, will be fit for the much-anticipated clash with Cristiano Ronaldo and his Portugal team-mates.

“He suffered a heavy knock,” said Luis Fabiano, 13/8 with bet365 to anytime against the Portuguese.

“But it is only a knock and we hope within two days he will be able to play.”

Elano, who has now found the net against both North Korea and the Ivorians, is 5/1 with bet365 to continue his rich vein of form and score anytime for the third game running, and the same bookmaker makes him 14/1 to open the scoring against Portugal.
