England coach Fabio Capello has confirmed Gareth Barry will feature in Friday’s game against Algeria – but did not confirm if he will start.
The Manchester City midfielder sat out the opening draw with the United States, but insisted afterwards he was fit and ready to return from an ankle injury if he had been called upon.
And Capello has now confirmed he will face the Algerians.
The Italian told BBC Sport: “Gareth will play this Friday. He is OK, there is no problem. He has trained very well and he is fit.”
All eyes will now once again be on goalkeeper Robert Green, whose blunder against the United States gifted Clint Dempsey an equaliser.
Capello has refused to be drawn on whether or not the West Ham man will be replaced by either David James or Joe Hart.
However, the England boss will be forced to make at least one change to the 11 that started against the US, with centre-half Ledley King expected to miss out due to a groin problem.
England are 1/4 favourites (Bet365, SkyBet, totesport, Boylesports, Paddy Power, Ladbrokes) to register their first win of the campaign, with Algeria 14/1 (Victor Chandler). Bodog are offering 6/1 on the draw.
