Coral fancy Ledley King to partner John Terry in England's defence

World Cup Staff - 4 Jun 2010

Ledley King is the 5-4 favourite with Coral to partner John Terry in England’s World Cup opener against the United States.

Captain and first-choice centre-back Rio Ferdinand looks set to miss the World Cup after suffering a knee injury in training.

And Coral fancy Tottenham skipper King to fill the void.

Spokesman Simon Clare said: "It looks a toss-up between Ledley King and Matthew Upson to partner Terry against the USA, but we just favour the Spurs man to get the nod.”

The bookmaker has also pushed out England’s chances of winning the tournament from 7/1 to 13/2.

Clare added: "To lose their captain on the eve of the tournament is a major blow to England's World Cup hopes and I can see their odds drifting further over the next couple of days.”
