England World Cup squad - Gareth Barry in but shock axe for Theo Walcott
Gareth Barry has been selected in England's World Cup squad but Theo Walcott has been surprisingly axed by Fabio Capello.
Barry has been racing to be fit for the tournament after suffering ankle ligament damage last month, but the Manchester City midfielder has passed a series of tests in London.
And although he will miss the opening match against the United States, Capello will give Barry more time to regain full fitness.
The biggest surprise was the decision to leave out Walcott despite the Arsenal youngster starting both of last week's friendlies against Mexico and Japan, with Capello opting for Shaun Wright-Phillips and Aaron Lennon.
There was also no room for Adam Johnson who was pipped to a place by Chelsea man Joe Cole following his solid second-half display against Japan.
Capello also axed Michael Dawson, Leighton Baines, Scott Parker, Tom Huddlestone and Darren Bent.
