Wayne Rooney has been warned to “control his temper” or risk another World Cup dismissal this summer.
Rooney, sent off for a stamp at the 2006 World Cup, was booked for dissent during England’s 3-0 exhibition win over local Platinum Stars on Monday afternoon.
And match referee Jeff Selogilwe believes the Manchester United star could land himself in hot water during the tournament.
Selogilwe said: “He must learn to control his temper. He could get sent off in the World Cup.
“He is a good player when you see him on the TV but when you see him on the pitch, he just keeps on insulting the referees.
“To me, it looks like Rooney insults other people and fouls other players. If he insults a referee like me then he will use that vulgar language to other referees as well.
“I was very disappointed in Rooney because he is my favourite player.”
Rooney is 5/1 with Ladbrokes to be sent off during the World Cup.
Spokesman Nick Weinberg said: “Rooney and England’s fate are intertwined. If he’s ruled out, the chances of the Three Lions going all the way will surely diminish.”
