England coach Fabio Capello insists he will not get caught up in the hype ahead of Sunday’s showdown with Germany.
The Three Lions’ failure to top Group C means they will have to face their bitter rivals in Bloemfontein, bringing memories of historic clashes in 1966, 1970 and 1990 back to the fore.
And with Germany legend Franz Beckenbauer once again stirring things up with another swipe at the English national team, emotions will be running high ahead of the last 16 clash.
However, Capello claims past history will have nothing to do with his preparations for the mouth-watering clash.
The Italian said: “For me, who play is not important.
“What was important was to rediscover our spirit and finish first or second. Now we are into a play-off – and I think we are ready.”
