Ledley King returns to training for England - Matthew Upson sits out once again

World Cup Staff - 6 Jun 2010

Ledley King returned to full training with the England squad on Sunday.

The Tottenham defender, who has to manage a degenerative knee problem, worked solely in the gym on Saturday but rejoined his team-mates for a full session 24 hours later.

King, the bookmakers’ favourite to start against the United States on June 12, will now be hoping to start in Monday’s exhibition match against local team Platinum Stars, a game in which Fabio Capello is reportedly planning to use his starting XI to face the US.

While King returned, West Ham’s Matthew Upson missed group training for the second day following illness.

However, he was able to work out in the gym and is expected to rejoin his team-mates on Monday.

SkyBet are offering odds of 20/1 on both King and Shaun Wright-Phillips starting England’s World Cup opener.
