Ghana international Kevin-Prince Boateng has apologised for ending Michael Ballack’s hopes of playing for Germany in this summer’s World Cup.
Portsmouth FC midfielder Boateng clashed with Chelsea FC star Ballack during the FA Cup final at Wembley last weekend causing the German skipper to suffer ankle ligament damage.
Ballack flew to Munich on Monday for scans and the results have shown enough damage to rule him out of the finals in South Africa – a decision that has left the German distraught.
Boateng, who will face Germany for Ghana in their Group D clash, is also upset over the outcome and has apologised to the midfielder.
He told Sport Bild: “All I can do is apologise. I was just too late and I hit him straight on.
"It looked stupid. I apologised to him twice on the field and now for a third time. I am sorry.
"It was not intentional."
