Midfielder Christian Traesch has added to Germany coach Joachim Loew’s injury woes ahead of the World Cup.
The 22-year-old Stuttgart man was being considered as a replacement for injured Chelsea veteran Michael Ballack.
But Traesch injured his ankle when he tripped over on the pitch during Germany XI’s 4-0 win over Italian Third Division side FC Tyrol on Monday night.
A scan later revealed that Traesch has damaged ligaments, keeping him out of training for two weeks.
Loew said: “It was a stupid situation, but it looks as though there is no tear in the ligaments.”
Germany can be backed at 14/1 with a raft of bookmakers - SkyBet, totesport, Boylesports, Betfred, Blue Square, Paddy Power, 888sport, bodog, Ladbrokes and Coral - to end a 20-year wait to regain the Jules Rimet Trophy this summer.
