Former captain John Terry claimed “there was a little bit of boredom” kicking in and Wayne Rooney said the Three Lions were “sick of darts and snooker” during their time in South Africa.
But Oezil, part of the German side that trounced England 4-1 in the last 16, said: “If you find the greatest tournament on earth boring, then you probably shouldn’t be there.
“Beating England 4-1 has to be my highlight because it showed, despite what people say of write, Germany is still one of the best footballing nations in the world.”
And Oezil, 21, insists Germany would have still beaten England even if Frank Lampard’s ‘goal’ was given and levelled the score at 2-2.
“If the ref doesn’t see it, he can’t give it – but it was clearly a goal,” he added. “It was disappointing for England, but I don’t think it would have changed the outcome of the match. We were the better team.”
Oezil’s Germany face Spain tonight in the World Cup semi-finals and the 21-year-old is 6/1 (Paddy Power) in the Anytime Goalscorer market.
