Germany star Bastian Schweinsteiger has emerged as a major doubt for Sunday’s last-16 showdown with England.
The influential midfielder returned to training on Saturday following problems with a back muscle and his hamstring, and goalkeeping coach Andres Koepke revealed a decision on Schweinsteiger, and Jerome Boateng (calf) would be left until the last minute.
“They need to be 100% in terms of fitness so our doctors will decide shortly before the match,” Koepke said.
However, one player who will miss the game is Brazil-born striker Cacau.
The 29-year-old Stuttgart man injured an abdominal muscle during a training session on Friday and will be sidelined for another four or five days.
But while Cacau sits out, Germany are boosted by the return of 2006 Golden Boot winner Miroslav Klose – and Victor Chandler are welcoming his return with a special offer.
