Coach Vicente del Bosque warns Spain about World Cup complacency

World Cup Staff - 29 May 2010

Spain coach Vicente del Bosque believes over-confidence could prevent his side from following up their Euro 2008 success with World Cup glory this summer.

Del Bosque’s men are favourites with the bookmakers to win the Jules Rimet Trophy and are expected to cruise through the group stage.

But in an interview with AS, del Bosque said: “I do not think beyond Honduras, Chile and Switzerland.

“The objective is to take the maximum points but the key to success is not to underestimate the opposition. Confidence is the cornerstone of failure.

“Who would think that Cape Verde would get a goalless draw with Portugal in the last few days?

“I am thrilled and amazed at the performance of the players in the first practice. After a tough season, I did not realise things would go so well.

“Everything is going better than expected, including the physical condition of the injured players.”

Spain go into the World Cup as favourites but if you want to back another team StanJames has extended an incredible concession to anyone not betting on Spain this summer.

If you bet on anyone other than Spain winning the World Cup and Spain wins the tournament, the bookmaker will give you your money back.

So if you were to back England and Spain won you'd get your money back.*
