The eight-legged phenomenon correctly forecast the result of eight straight ties, including tipping the Iberians to beat his home country Germany in the semi-finals, capping it all off by going for Vicente del Bosque's side to see off Holland in the decider.
Iniesta, voted man of the match following his extra-time winner, said: "As for the octopus, what can I say? We won. The octopus will be very popular in Spain."
After he netted the all-important strike, Iniesta took off his jersey to reveal a T-shirt paying tribute to former Espanyol player Dani Jarque, who died after a heart attack in August.
The shirt stated "Dani Jarque is always with us" and Iniesta explained: "I wanted to carry Dani Jarque with me and with my other team-mates.
"We wanted to feel his strength. We wanted to pay tribute to him in the world of football, and this was the best opportunity to do so."
Spain are 9/2 at Coral to make it a hat-trick of major tournament triumphs at Euro 2012 - and Iniesta will be hoping Paul picks his side for glory in Poland and the Ukraine.
