Diego Maradona 4/7 to see Irish eyes on August 11

World Cup Staff - 5 Jul 2010

William Hill have opened betting on whether or not Diego Maradona will still be in charge of Argentina when they play their friendly match against the Republic of Ireland on August 11.

The bookmaker make him a 4/7 chance to be in charge of the team to play Ireland, and 5/4 not to be.

Ireland’s match against Argentina will be the first soccer international at the new Aviva stadium in Dublin - built to replace the old Lansdowne road which was demolished in 2007.

William Hill's Irish spokesman Tony Kenny said: "Maradona was given a heroes' welcome on returning home to Buenos Aires, and we think the support he received from the public is likely to persuade him to stay on.

"However, we are talking about Diego Maradona – so god knows what’s going through his head. Maradona draws huge media attention wherever he goes – so it would be great news for Ireland and the new stadium sponsors if he stays in charge."

Will Maradona still be in charge of Argentina for their match against Ireland on August 11 (William Hill bet): 4-7 Yes, 5-4 No
