FIFA president Sepp Blatter has admitted that the Qatar World Cup in 2022 could be played in January

Speaking in Qatar ahead of the Asian Cup which starts on Friday, the FIFA president revealed: "I expect it will be held in the winter.

"We have time to look at this question, it is still 11 years away but we must decide the most adequate period for a successful world cup which means January or the end of the year."

The move would mean a number of clubs throughout Europe and elsewhere would be potentially without a number of players for what is a busy time in many domestic leagues and competitions.
