Harry Kewell insists Australia can still reach the last 16 despite the crushing 4-0 defeat to Germany in their first group game.
The 31-year-old claims the Socceroos are far better than the performance against Germany suggests, and that they can prove it in the remaining games against Ghana and Serbia.
Kewell said: “It wasn’t a great effort against Germany but there are two games to go and anything can happen at a World Cup.
“We were all disappointed in the game but we are all men, we can take it on the chin and we go out there. We have to improve in the game against Ghana.
“There are still two games to go and we have got time to turn things around.”
The former Leeds and Liverpool man also thinks they can cover for the loss of suspended talisman Tim Cahill, who was sent off during the loss to Germany.
“Tim is a great player and it’s disappointing he won’t be there,” he added.
“But we have got great players in our squad so we can cope with any players that we have or haven’t got.”
The Socceroos can be backed at 100/30 (extrabet) to beat Ghana and 11/4 (Ladbrokes) to defeat Serbia in their remaining group games.
