Australia surprised many football followers when they entered the 2nd round of the 2006 Football World Cup before a controversial defeat against Italy. In this FIFA 2010 World Cup, one cannot under estimate the Australians, specially after their great run in the qualifying rounds. Australia are ranked 30th in the World Football rankings. This will be Australia's 3rd appearance in the World Cup. Australia will definitely be aiming big in this World Cup in South Africa. Key players will be Tim Cahill, Mark Schwarzer, Lucas Neil  and Harry Kewell. Under the Dutch coach Pim Verbeek, the Australian's seem very confident. In 2006 World Cup, Australia went through to the second round in a group which consisted of  Brazil, Croatia and Japan. A controversial penalty in the injury time helped Italy beat Australia.

Germany look good as a team but on Sunday they suffered a major set back when their ace defender Heiko Westermann suffered a foot injury and was ruled out of the 2010 World Cup. Heiko Westermann fractured a bone in his foot while playing against Hungary on Saturday. Earlier Michael Ballack and Christian Traesch were ruled out of the FIFA 2010 World Cup due to injuries. Defender Philipp Lahm has taken over as the captain after Ballack was ruled out. Bastian Schweinsteiger will be playing as vice-captain.

Bastian Schweinsteiger will be another player to watch. The Germans uncovered the hugely talented  and gifted Schweinsteiger on the eve of Euro 2004 but despite his talent, the blonde haired mid fielder is now looking to revamp his career with both his club Bayern Munich as well as the national football team. Normally positioned on the right side of midfield, the arrival of Frenchman Ribery at Bayern in 2007 pushed Schweinsteiger to the sub's bench on regular
basis. At the 2006 World Cup in Germany, despite a semi final defeat to the Italians, Schweinsteiger had an excellent tournament and scored two times in the victory over Portugal for the third spot.
