Cameroon play their first ever Africa hosted Football World Cup. Cameroon are ranked 19 in the World Football rankings. This FIFA 2010 in South Africa will be their 6th world cup appearance. Cameroon's best run till date was when they reached the quarter finals in 1990. In all other 4 world cup's they managed to go only till the first round.Samuel Eto'o, Rogibert Song and Kameni are the key players to watch. Under the French coach Paul Le Guen, the Cameroon team looks confident. They will try and make up for the heartbreaking 2006 World Cup in Germany, when Pierre Wome missed a late penalty. Eto' who then refused to take the penalty kick, is at this peak now and amongst a handful of players who can vie for the world's best center forward. Eto'o known for his quick reflexes is in tremendous form and playing for clubs like Barcelona and Inter Milan has only helped him boost his morale and bring the best out of him.

Cameroon have won 4 African Nations Cup titles and have made it to the finals 6 times, which when added to their World Cup record perhaps makes them the most accomplished African football team in this FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa. The World Cup campaign started pretty bad for Cameroon, when they lost 1-0 to Togo and had a goalless draw with Morocco. Their previous coach Otto Pfister was sacked and Le Guen was brought in and 4 straight wins qualified Cameroon at the wire.

The first thing Le Guen did was to hand over the captaincy to Eto'o from Song who has more than 100 caps. Other important players in this World Cup 2010 for Cameroon are Geremi, Webo, Emana and excellent goalkeeper Kameni. For a small nation, Cameroon have climbed a long way. The way Europe treats Germany, Cameroon has the same respect in Africa. They have a championship mentality.
